1997. Vanda Duarte appears on a screen for the first time. Her presence in Ossos causes a ripple effect that irreversibly transforms Pedro Costa’s cinema and reanimates the cinephile mythomania of the ‘90s. Here, Vanda plays a written character, and, from the tensions between character and actress, between the conventions of fiction and the streets of Fontainhas, appears a traumatized, fascinating film that anticipates a new cinema in which the word “documentary” is part of a dead language.
