A faux documentary set in a dystopian world where women can reproduce asexually and men have become useless to society. Things get complicated when the male population decides it’s time to organize a rebellion.
A speculative film with an extreme premise: the end of men –not humanity, only the male gender. This is a thoughtful comedy with the shape of a mockumentary that gets exploited with the type of certainty that is based on a good idea –a powerful one, the kind it can immediately summon up and promote a story. But this film by Mark Sawers is definitely not living on shallow breaths: No Men Beyond This Point taps into the war of the sexes, impostures, and the way totalizing, unique discourses often come apart. Through every crack and every contradiction, the film states –with clarity, grace, and a controversial power– its awareness of the fact that these themes have been present in comedies about (few) men and (many) women for decades. He was born in Vancouver, Canada. He created several film and TV projects, including the short film Shoes Off! (1998), which won the Best Short Film award at the Critics’ Week in Cannes, and the feature-length film Camera Shy (2012).
