The hypnotic and tired tides move the ocean’s flora. Nicolás is scuba diving near the shore, until he believes to have
seen a human shape at the bottom of the sea. A boy, just like him. Dead. That discovery will precipitate the loss of his innocence, as his tiny place in the world will start to reveal some sinister secrets. Just like in his first film Innocence, Hadzihalilovic attacks puberty as an existential turning point, and dives into the depths of body horror, with hints of a folklore fable. Handcrafted and atmospheric, Evolution is one of those sticky films that are hard to leave behind after you watched it: its fry serenity is an invitation to walk over the limit between dreams and nightmares.
