[18] BAFICI expands to every corner of Buenos Aires: in addition to the usual Festival venues, this year there are new locations and free screenings in new areas of town.
In 2016, the Festival brings the world’s best independent cinema across the geography of the City. The Centro Cultural Recoleta will serve as the Festival’s headquarters and meeting point. As something new this year, there will be free screenings in several neighborhoods: Carlos Mugica (Retiro), Plaza Juan 23 (Bajo Flores), Cildañez, Cancha de los Huérfanos, Polideportivo Los Piletones, Galpón Piedrabuenarte and Casa de la Cultura Villa 21-24 (Barracas). Other activities will also take place at the following cultural centers: Macedonio Fernández (Mataderos), Homero Manzi (Nueva Pompeya), Lola Mora (Caballito), Julio Cortázar (Nuñez), Versalles, Julian Centeya (Boedo), Carlos Gardel (Chacarita) and Adán Buenosayres (Parque Chacabuco). In addition, a historical local movie theater such as Espacio INCAA Cine Gaumont in the neighborhood of Congreso has been added to the roster of venues that include Village Recoleta and Caballito, Arte Multiplex Belgrano, El Cultural San Martín, Malba, Planetario and Fundación Proa. At the Anfiteatro de Parque Centenario and on the rooftop of Centro Cultural Recoleta, there will be free movie screenings as part of the "Open-Air BAFICI” program. And French pianist and composer Michel Legrand, one of the major international guests of the Festival, will play in concert at Teatro Colón.
