Great Opening and Closing Films

30 de March de 2016

Eugène Green’s French comedy “Le fils de Joseph” will open the Festival. And the closing night film will be “Miles Ahead”, the long awaited biographical movie about Miles Davis.

The film chosen to open the Festival, on Wed, April 13, is Eugène Green’s Le fils de Joseph, a French feature that tackles fatherhood in a special way, with biblical motifs and amazing characters and situations. A 15-year-old teenager who ignores the identity of his father sets out on a search for him that will bring more surprises than one. Premiered earlier this year at the Berlin International Film Festival, the film received unanimous praise from European critics. On the other hand, the film chosen to close the Festival, on Sun, April 24, is Miles Ahead – starring, written, directed and produced by Don Cheadle – about some interesting moments in the exciting life of Miles Davis, the trumpeter that (in his own words) “changed music five or six times”. Unwilling to create a typical biopic, Cheadle preferred to focus only on two periods in the life of the musician: his rise to glory during the 1950s and first marriage; and his temporary retirement in the second half of the ‘50s. “For chronological storytelling, you have documentaries. I wanted to make a film that matched who he was: an explosive project with formal freedom,” Cheadle explained.
