She was born in Paraná, Entre Ríos in 1973. She studied at Universidad del Cine, in Buenos Aires, and has written and directed several short films. Her debut film Ana y los otros (2003) was screened in film festivals and commercial theaters across the world and won awards at festivals in Venice, Buenos Aires, Thessaloniki, Vienna, Anonimul (Romania) and Punta del Este. It was also selected Best Latin American Film of the Year by Fipresci (International Federation of Film Critics). Una semana solos (2008), her second feature, also garnered many international awards. In 2008, Celina Murga was chosen by Martín Scorsese to be his protégé for a year, as part of the Rolex Arts Initiative. Over this year, she developed the script for her fourth film, La tercera orilla, which had its international premiere in the official competition of Berlinale 2014. The movie was executively produced by Scorsese himself and co-produced by Argentina, Germany and Netherlands. In 2010 she filmed the documentary Escuela Normal, also screened in the Berlinale. In the last years, Celina has also served as a jury member in different international festivals and competitions as well as worked as a teacher and project mentor.
