Today at Teatro Colón, South African company Third World Bunfight will perform an original version of Verdi’s opera, set in Africa. And the great news is that there are tickets available.
Today at 1 PM, South African company Third World Bunfight will perform Macbeth at Teatro Colón, offering a new version of Verdi’s opera, based on Africa’s political refugee crisis. A group of Congolese refugees stumble upon a trunk filled with sheet music, costumes and gramophone recordings of the opera. And so the story begins. Director Brett Bailey has expressed, “The first impulse to make this work arose from a desire to locate Macbeth within an African context. I have been aware of the catastrophe in the Eastern Congo for many years now: its scale and its complexity. It is striking to me that so few people outside of the region even know about it.” Tickets are on sale on this website and at the ticket offices of Teatro General San Martin (Av. Corrientes 1530), Teatro Regio (Av. Córdoba 6065) and Punto de Encuentro (Av. Corrientes 1681) from 10 AM to 10 PM, and at Teatro Colón from 10 AM to 8 PM, except on Sundays: from 10 AM to 5 PM.
