The San Fernando Valley, in Southern California, where, according to the song, it never rains. Stories converge and there’s a split screen. The main storyline involves two actors and two actresses in the adult film industry, whom we see showering, shaving (body and face), travelling to the set, performing, and returning. Also, there’s an extraordinary interview with the director of the film they just shot. In Everything That Rises Must Converge, Omer Fast mixes documentary and fiction by including other characters –who experience a crisis– who are not the ones performing in the pornographic fiction. There’s a certain familiarity, even intimacy, and a peculiar feeling of estrangement in watching those worlds, between those worlds and their combinations of images. From the film’s title that is also the one of a Flannery O’Connor short story and book, to a poem by Rilke, literature also adds some texture to this unusual film featuring performed explicit sex in a shooting that is captured as a documentary. He was born in Jerusalem in 1972 and grew up in Israel and Nueva York. He studied English and Art and began his career designing a magazine. His video installations and other pieces have been exhibited in places like the Wexner Center for the Arts, the Whitney Museum of American Art and other museums in Vienna, Munich and Frankfurt.
