A fascinating chronicle of one failure, or maybe several. In the Eighties, the Cuban government –with the assistance and capitals of the extinct Soviet Union– started to build nuclear reactors in the Juraguá region, in the province of Cienfuegos. Then Chernobyl happened, and then the Berlin Wall fell, and then the USSR was gone. And the reactors were left unfinished. And the Electro-Nuclear City became a huge white elephant. On that ghostly run-down town, in a ghostly run-down apartment, Leo, Rafael and Otto live a bad life together. They are son, father and grandfather, and each one has their own frustrations, related to love, work, and life. The Project of the Century combines fiction and documentary –or just fiction, we could say–, with dreams and nightmares –or maybe just nightmares. A present life of shortages (like fish in a small pool of water) in strict black and white, an ancient typography (noticing that is essential) that once dreamed itself as modern, and some extraordinary archive footage, once again a testimony of how ridiculous political propaganda can be, especially when it’s made with synthesizers.

He was born in Havana in 1984. He studied Arts at the High Institute of Art and Scriptwriting at EICTV. His opera prima, The Swimming Pool, premiered at the 63 rd edition of the Berlinale. From then on, it competed in more than twenty international film festivals.
