La música interior

“In the city of Corrientes, musicians from every region in the country have 48 hours to draw a musical map of Argentina and turn it into a concert, guided by Liliana Herrero and Juan Falú,” a card explains at the beginning of The Inner Music. And that’s all the explanation there will be, because what follows doesn’t need one: it’s the summary of those days of both hard and enjoyable work by a true dream team of national popular music. Without a hint of diva-like behavior and lots of playful spirit, everyone from the local Teresa Parodi to the Patagonian Luisa Calcumil –including prime representatives from all the regions in the country– discuss the repertoire selection, suggest possible arrangements and collaborations, join in ad hoc bands, and above all, rehearse, sing, and play their instruments with their known talent and a contagious vitality. Arca’s camera is close but never invasive, and it confirms that documentary cinema is, largely, a matter of finding the right distance: to watch, sure, but also to listen. AM
