Eccentric pop artist Takashi Murakami, who is known for selling hentai statues at millionaire prizes, has plunged into cinema with this adorable, hallucinatory, and frenetic mix of animation and live action. Masashi, who has just lost his father in Fukushima, moves in with his mother, thus becoming the new kid in school. The event coincides with the arrival into his life of a peculiar friend he will name Jellyfish Boy (Kurage-bo), an epitome of kawaii and supernatural strength. He’ll be quite surprised to find out all the kids there have one of these Pokemon-like creatures they all call F.R.I.E.N.D. and are controlled and fed by their fears and anguish in the way of a neurotic 21st century Tamagotchi. These were the creation of a sort of scientific cult that uses children as guinea pigs in order to free the world from evil. Amidst vitamin-filled action scenes and epic fights, Masashi and his new friend will try to neutralize the thugs that bully him with their F.R.I.E.N.D.s, and they will join forces to destroy the true –and Godzilla-like– evil that is about to unleash on them.
