Merello x Carreras

At a time in cinema when many archives are opened, declassified and put into consideration, Victoria Carreras shares her home movies. They are the last moving images ever captured to feature Tita Merello as she shares a Sunday with the family of Enrique and Mercedes Carreras and, shortly before, in her last onstage appearance in Mar del Plata. A few magic touches take us from that moment to this one, in the same kitchen and the same dressing room, in a documentary that covers four generations the diva blended with during her last years. Through silence, Jacinto Pérez Heredia, Ben Molar and some musician share their secrets. Meanwhile, the delicacy of the director, who’s also an actress and for whom Tita was like an aunt, opens her box of secrets and makes them her own skin and clothes. The stockings. The garters. A ring. A strap. A great moment of mysticism that we witness. Merello, who already has a statue, a couple of musicals and some books written about her, is ready to go out on stage and receive this intimate homage to the tune of “Gran Hotel Victoria” (Carreras).
