If the struggle between novelty and tradition marks the relationship between a family’s generations, it has turned particularly intense in the case of young Malva –as up to date as she is with social networks and techno gadgets– and her grandmother Lalilas, who knows better than anyone that sharing with her granddaughter the knowledge she inherited from her predecessors and their communication codes is essential in order to protect their secret legacy. Things get complicated for both when the unscrupulous owner of a cosmetics factory enters the scene intending to get a hold of granny’s magical formulas. Almost without noticing, Malva boards an adventure on the road on a Winnebago in which Lalilas, her weasel Mus, and a trio of musical snails who behave like a Greek choir, parade through towns with their natural herbs. It’s a trip that will bring the protagonist closer to her granddaughter’s ancestral knowledge and aims to make room for her in the dynasty of cartoon witches, which, granted, aren’t many, but nevertheless –from Cachavacha to Miyazaki’s Kiki– do exist.
