That guy from the title, Dick Miller. He’s the one the uninitiated may regard as “that secondary role guy of whom I can’t remember his name but I know his face”, yet the dickmillerians praise every time he appears. His name and presence have been associated to films worthy of celebration: those of Joe Dante and Roger Corman. Miller, a cinema working man for sixty years, worked with many other directors but for these two he stood as a key, a resisting token –Gremlins, Little Shop of Horrors, Small Soldiers, A Bucket of Blood, and so many others. Working in cinema, his aspirations, his friends (yes, Dante and Corman are among the interviewed), and his life in Hollywood without being a star: decades of films, comedy, and a lucid take on the industry. Elijah Drenner’s documentary is not just a portrait of someone we always wanted to know more of, but also one of those pieces that provide us with enjoyable knowledge.
