Welcome to the funniest, freest, sharpest, and –why not– more serious film made about its theme Argentine cinema has delivered in a long (maybe too long) time. It’s a radical Artificial Generation and is also enchanting, and the fact that someone has managed to put those two things into the same image flow is a huge merit. Maybe it’s because the director Fede Pintos is played by a different person (Rafael Cippolini), in a sort of steamy Jekyll and Hyde scheme. Or maybe it’s because the theme of the documentary that is inside the fiction that is inside the documentary Artificial Generation is the world of VJs or Video Jockeys, that lost or diluted language that was once forced into the radical nature of hypnotic images –but not so much today. The several Fede Pintos featured in the film unfold the history of the genre from a perfect gimmick: the search for a pioneer VJ that intends to hack the human brain through video images. The great historical thriller of the pre-Vine and pre-Vice generation is now among us, and it’s almost a documentary. Cheers. MP

He studied Film and Playwriting. He was an editor-in-chief of the magazine Haciendo Cine, a festival programmer and producer of Ernesto Baca’s films Semen (2007) and Vrindavana (Bafici ‘10). He directed the short film Zainichi, which participated in Bafici ‘11.
