Village Recoleta - Vicente López y Junín
Room: 8
Asked about the political dimension of his second feature (because he’s a film director born in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 1975, and that is what he must be asked about), Nadav Lapid answers: “In the film, there’s a great amount of Israelis that rub salt in the film’s wound: does anyone still care about beauty, poetry and ideas? And if the answer is yes, is it possible to be careful enough to express yourself in a way that you directly avoid perversion?” How can you make a film about such a question, one that is complex and, at the same time, is one of the few that, perhaps, deserve to be addressed? You do it like The Kindergarten Teacher, with the story of a five-year-old who goes into a trance and recites poetry, and that of his kindergarten teacher, a failed poet capable of reaching limits of (justly) epic perversity in her hope that that beauty, that poetry and those ideas make their way through a world that may not have much intention to receive them.
