Boys just want to have fun: the plan is to go for a ride, grab a few beers; maybe pick up some girl or getting distracted enough in order to forget other girls, the ones they have or those they want to have. All of this in the same night. Of course, things don’t go as planned. The main characters are two likable troublemakers, armed with the urgency that comes with being young and an otherworldly perseverance to become involved in insane and dangerous situations. Dog’s Night is an unusual Argentine comedy, built up with steady strokes of grace, remarkably executed and a slight bitter tone, that elegantly dismisses the automatic sleaziness of an After Hours made in Buenos Aires in order to display, instead, an equivalent gallery of characters that seem to unaffectedly inhabit the B-side of the city. Nocturnal but amiable, confident of its pace but without losing any lucidness, the film dodges cliché and arrives to happiness in the most unexpected of ways. DO
