In 2013, The Mysterious Fanta Ananas, an unknown Somalian filmmaker, surprised the festival fauna with Chigger Ale, a bizarre short film about a Hitler clone from outer space. Everything seems to indicate that behind Fanta’s novelesque identity sits Miguel Llansó, a visionary filmmaker and adventurer who was born in Madrid but is an Ethiopian by choice. Crumbs, his first feature-length film, is an apocalyptic adventure that equally draws from Franklin Schaffner, He-man, Boorman’s Zardoz, Herzog, and the Monty Python. And his universe is an amazing world where the materials that brought down society as it was in the years before the Great War, have now served to build a new system of belief, a new mystic spirit in which the image of Michael Jordan is as venerated as if it was the Virgin Mary, where Santa Claus is a respected oracle and an abandoned bowling alley hides the door that leads to another world.
