Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires

This episodic collective film speculates, sometimes as desperate comedy, on the manifestations of divinity under the points of view of a gang of renowned directors. That the gods are crazy and have a thousand faces seems to be the general conclusion, and they also have a sense of humor, a capricious temper, fits of rage or apathetic gestures like those that could constitute the true mysterious nature of that which operates proverbially isolated from the human sphere. If Hideo Nakata, for example, offers the primordial question in times of supreme catastrophe (“why me?”), Héctor Babenco imagines a sole circular fate for sorrow, while Kusturica falls face down against the shadows of a culture that could perhaps be nothing but the revelation of its own arrogance. Guillermo Arriaga, in turn, summons courage and delivers a grand finale with a literal downpour of blood over Mexican territory. For this anomalous film, perplexity reigns on earth as it does in heaven. DO
