“Don’t bust my chops, Arturo,” Edo complains to his friend, who wants to drag him along in his desperate searches for initiation sex. As if adolescence weren’t already hard for a more or less normal kid, Edo has been carrying an extra burden since he was little, a clinical condition known as phimosis, which guarantees that every kind of genital interaction (even with his own hand) will turn into a world of pain. Skinny as a stick, educated, sensitive and somewhat reserved, Edo has some girls and opportunities starting to approach him almost without effort, but also without hope. Two girls in particular: an attractive, cool rocker, fleshy and forward, who wants to have a little fun; and Bianca, the summertime neighbor he’s been in love with for a while. The “coming of age” formula isn’t enough to describe the charm of Chiarini’s first fiction film, nor is brilliant newcomer Matteo Creatini and the spontaneity with which he drives us through his painful ordeal, a path from which we will come out seeing octopuses (yes, those mollusks) in a whole new light.
