The deal with Park Lanes is none other than its running time: the eight hours of the workday of the laborers at a factory. Having said this, one could ask oneselves why so few films have dealt with work, or have felt the necessity to reflect what makes the working class unique, aside from the purely cinematic professions (the cop, the attorney, the cowboy, the artist). In Park Lanes, what matters is the work itself, manual and repetitive work that is part of an assembly line in which what is manufactured is besides the point (in fact, it will takes a few hours to find it out or sense it). And what matters is time, which, in order to be shared, must be respected (and vice versa). Kevin Jerome Everson makes us witnesses of something that lacks epic but shows the strange poetry of the most prosaic acts. An unusual proposal on the most ordinary –a fascinating film that should never be mistaken for a museum installation. JP
