Some people say that 2000 years ago the Romans kicked the Jews out of Israel. Persecutions, diasporas, and a return to the promised land. In that complex web, Argentina emerged later, accomodating thousands of life stories. And so, now it’s 1999 and a kid yells: “Party on!”. He sets out on his first trip to Israel, and it’s all about partying. However, the passage of time provides weight and an orientation: Us, Them, and Me emerges like a puzzle. It comes and goes up to the heart of a millenary culture, and sheds light on a geopolitical conflict casts a shadow on the region since forever. Guarded cities, exploding bombs, massive praying, rough fates, blood-spilled lands, and a Gaza Strip where the sun still shines inspite of  everything. Almost unintentionally, Nicolas Avruj’s camera becomes a witness of confrontations and risings: the pain of otherness, the opression of a lurking state of war, and living in fear. And having that fear incarnating into everyday life. HP
