An Israeli series of “love letters to cinema” drives this short that is precise and concise as possible. After being asked about a shot that changed his life, a filmmaker goes twenty years back in order to remember an episode of his time in the army: seeing Teorema. The fascination for the military, the tribal notion of virility, the need to become (an obedient) part of a group, and some of Lapid’s work’s essential aspects are questioned by the disturbing beauty of Pasolinian images. Massimo Girotti’s final collapse in the film is also that of a young soldier and future director. Luckily for us, fascinated viewers. MP
