Winter starts during the summer –a Chilean summer of intense heat and intense activity for Alejo Cortés, who writes nonstop what will become his second novel. The publishing date for Caída libre (“Free Fall”) is six months away, and the literary world is expecting it with equal amounts of expectation and morbidity. In part, because of the support they can give him, but, above all, because the novel is about them, Alejo seeks the company of his friends, an urban tribe that relates with “culture” in diverse ways and, even more diversely, with each other. Until winter arrives and Caída libre appears with the potency and the effect of a giant ice ball: everything cools down, bonds break and, in short, everything changes. With a remarkably precise narrative and a great rock soundtrack, the nearly five hours (divided into three chapters) of Fuguet’s new film, which premieres at this Bafici, pierce through that landscape of numb hearts where everyone seems to be searching for something: love, respect, friendship, their own voice, reasons of the unexplainable or, at least, for everything to go on ok-ish.
