A FESTIVAL THAT CONTINUES TO GROW

25 April 2015

The 380 thousand people coming to the screenings and activities of the 2015 BAFICI and the great moments gathered over these two weeks have made this a memorable year for the Festival.

BAFICI ended with a total attendance of 380,000, confirming its success in delivering great moments, great cinema over two weeks across the entire City: a total of 412 films from 37 countries were shown in 1090 theater screenings, selling 85% of the tickets. Apart from the figures, there were many great moments worth mentioning. The visit of Isabelle Huppert to present many of the films in her BAFICI retrospective; the tribute concert to Jaco Pastorious led by Javier Malosetti at Usina del Arte (and the visit of American bassist Robert Trujillo, an international rock star and the producer of the documentary Jaco); the special screenings of Amalia (with live music by the trio led by Adrian Iaies) and La calle de los pianistas at Teatro Colón; the highly-populated ‘Open-Air Cinema’ screenings at Anfiteatro Parque Centenario over the weekends—these are just some of the highlights of this year’s Festival. Because on top of that, it was all about the films: award-winners, sold-out movies, rarities, restored classics (including the historic premiere of a restored copy of La tregua, an effort by the Academia de Cine Argentino), Argentine films that debuted in the Argentine Competition (5 in total), the ongoing family romance with ‘Little BAFICI’, the strong presence of France in each one of the sections as a special guest of honor, and all the retrospectives and spotlights focusing on a cinema that always takes risks. This and the passion of thousands of people who have enthusiastically followed the ritual of film-going—the magically dark and silent atmosphere—is the true inspiration for BAFICI, which, as you all know, is alive and kicking. See you next year!
